접속사 및 접속 전치사

 

1. 접속사중에 가장 많이 출제되는 것은 역접이며, 종류는 although, even though, though, but, yet, as 등이다.

 

2. Part 6에서 접속사를 보는 순간 뒤에 주어 동사가 오는지, 전치사 뒤에는 명사나 동명사가 오는지 부터 확인한다.

3. '게다가, A뿐만 아니라 B도, ~~이 외에도‘ 라는 뜻의 전치사는 Besides, In addition to+명사, A as well as B가 빈출 전치사이다.

 

4. 접속사와 같은 의미를 가진 전치사구를 암기한다.

ex) 역접 - In spite of, Despite 이유 - Because of, Due to, During(전치사) - While(접속사)

Unless(접속사) - Without(전치사)

 

＊ ‘ ～을 제외하고’ 라는 뜻의 예외표시 전치사는 But, except(접속사 or 전치사) , except for, with the exception of 등이 있다. ex) With the exception of John, everyone passed the exam.

 

＊ but, except는 문장 앞에 쓰이지 못한다. ex) Except Monday the museum is open every day (×) → The museum is open every day except Monday (○) , Except for Mondays the museum is open every day. (○)

 

* but은 all, no, nobody, anywhere, everything, 의문사(who, where, what)등의 뒤에서만 쓰인다.

ex) The museum is open everyday except/but Monday.

The window is never opened but in the summer.(×)

⇒ The window is never opened except/save in the summer.

 

5. Apart from, aside from, other than 등도 ‘~을 제외하고’의 뜻이다.

ex) There is nobody here apart from/aside from me.

The plane was a bit late, but other than that the journey was fine.(비행기가 늦었다. 그러나 그것을 제외하고 여행은 즐거웠다.)

 

6. 다음은 접속사 같지만 절대 접속사가 아니다. However, Nevertheless, Nonetheless, therefore 는 부사이다.

8. 기타 등등 In case of 명사(동명사) = in the event of 명사(동명사)~일 경우에 대비하여

In case that 주어 + 동사 = in the event that 주어 + 동사 ~일 경우에 대비하여

 

※ that 과 what의 구별법

that : 접속서 that 다음에는 주어와 동사가 완벽하게 갖추어진 문장.

what : what뒤에 주어와 동사가 있더라도 뭔가가 빠진 문장, 즉 목적어가 아예 없거나 주어가 빠진 문장

ex) Tell me what is wrong?

Do you understand what I mean?(목적어 필요)
