관계 대명사

 

관계대명사 ---- 기본 원칙은 선행사(관대가 꾸미는 명사)가 사람이면 who를 쓰고 사물이면, which나 that를 쓰면된다.

 

알짜정리 point

*관계대명사 which는 이럴 때 쓴다.

1. 앞 절 전체가 선행사 일 때 The plane took off as scheduled, which is good news.

 

*다음의 경우는 that절이 절대 올 수 없다.

1. 앞에 comma가 있을 때(=계속적 용법일 때) The lady, that is poor, is honest.(×)

2. 앞에 전치사가 있을 때 This is the product of that I spoke.(×)

 

＊what 에는 이미 선행사가 포함되어 있기 때문에 선행사가 없어야 되며, 이점이 that 나 which와는 다른 점이다.

what = the thing which

I am sorry for what ( = the thing which ) I have done.

He is not what ( = the man that) he used to be.

 

*관계부사 = 전치사 + 관계대명사

This is the place where (=in which) he was born.

I know the day when (=on which)she sailed for Japan.

This is the reason why (=for which) I was so angry.

Ask your farther (the way) how(=in which) he used to live.

 

*관계대명사의 생략 : 목적격 관계대명사일 때만 해당. 주격 관계대명사는 생략하면 안됨.

The man (whom) you saw is my uncle.(동사의 목적어)

This is the garden (which) he sunbathes in.(전치사의 목적어)

He is the new manager who is in charge of our team.

 

*복합관계대명사

1)명사적 용법 - 명사절(주어, 목적어, 보어절)을 이끈다.(어떤 ~라도)

Give it to whoever wants it.(=anyone who)

Give it to whomever you like.(=anyone whom)

 

2) 형용사적 용법 - 명사를 수식한다. (어떤 ~라도)

You may read whichever book you like. (=any book that)

 

3) 부사적 용법 - 양보의 부사절을 이끈다. (~하더라도)

Whoever comes, he will be welcomed. (= No matter who)

Whoever you are, remember me.( = No matter where)

 

＊ Part 6에서 관계대명사에 밑줄이 그어져 있으면
